Responsibility, Not a Crown

According to Deloitte, more than 10,000 baby boomers are retiring every day. It’s no surprise that nearly90% of companies say that finding and developing strong leaders is an urgent challenge.

“Rapidly growing companies often have an abundance of new managers,” said Jeff Temple, Sr. Manager, Learning and Engagement at Appirio, an information technology consulting company. He adds that “….. what makes someone a great consultant or salesperson doesn’t necessarily make them a great manager, at least not initially.”

Some see promotion into a leadership role as a rite of passage, a title earned, access to power and prestige. Just look at the number of executives clamouring to be able to say they are part of their “senior leadership team”.

Conscious leadership replaces “me” with “we” and works to achieve results with building people along the way. If you are out for yourself, you will be by yourself. Expect hard work, not a crown.
